Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has officially launched the registration phase for Punjab’s ambitious E-Taxi initiative, part of her Green & Clean Transport Plan. This groundbreaking project is designed to revolutionize urban transport in Lahore by introducing eco-friendly electric taxis that offer both affordability and sustainability.
The E-Taxi project is being implemented through a joint effort between the Punjab Transport and Mass Transit Department and the Bank of Punjab. The goal is to provide citizens with a safer, cost-effective, and environmentally conscious alternative to traditional fuel-based vehicles.
Who Can Apply?
The registration is open to Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), authorized local dealers, distributors, and joint ventures. Interested parties must offer electric vehicles that meet the government’s strict criteria for safety, performance, and operational reliability.
Applications must be submitted by 11:00 AM on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, to the Transport and Mass Transit Department at 11-A Egerton Road, Lahore. This process will help compile a reference list of approved EV models eligible for taxi use.
Government to Provide Major Financial Incentives
To make the transition to electric vehicles more accessible, the Punjab government is offering a comprehensive financial support package that includes:
-
Equity contribution assistance
-
A five-year loan through the Bank of Punjab
-
Partial payment of registration fees
Eligible buyers can choose their electric taxis from a pre-approved list. The government will provide financing of up to PKR 6.5 million per vehicle, while any cost beyond that will be the buyer’s responsibility.
