Petrol Price in Pakistan Increased from June 1, 2025 – Here’s What You Need to Know

The Government of Pakistan has officially announced a modest increase in petrol prices starting from June 1, 2025. As per the latest update from the Finance Division, the price of petrol has gone up by Re1 per litre, bringing the new rate to Rs253.63 per litre. This change is a part of the government’s regular fuel price review, which is conducted every fortnight.

On the other hand, there is no change in the price of high-speed diesel (HSD), which remains the same, providing a slight relief to sectors such as transport and agriculture that depend heavily on diesel for their daily operations.

Latest Petrol Price in Pakistan – June 1, 2025

Here’s a quick breakdown of the revised petrol prices in Pakistan:

Fuel Type Old Price (Rs) New Price (Rs) Change (Rs)
Petrol 252.63 253.63 +1.00
Diesel (HSD) 258.16 258.16 0.00

Why the Petrol Price Was Increased

The latest hike in fuel prices is based on recommendations from the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) in coordination with relevant ministries. Though earlier speculation suggested a possible decrease in petrol prices by Rs0.60 to Rs1.00 due to declining global oil prices, the final decision went the opposite way.

This decision comes despite the international oil market showing a downward trend. As of now:

  • Brent crude is trading between $64.02 and $64.60 per barrel.

  • West Texas Intermediate (WTI) has dropped below $61 per barrel.

The drop was influenced by speculation that OPEC+ may increase global oil production, which generally puts downward pressure on prices. However, domestic policy considerations, taxes, and levies have more impact on the final retail prices in Pakistan.

What to Expect in Coming Months

While June’s change is minimal, significant fuel price hikes may be on the horizon. From July 2025, the government is expected to implement new fiscal policies as part of commitments to the IMF. This includes:

  • Increasing the Petroleum Development Levy (PDL) to over Rs100 per litre.

  • Introducing a Rs5 per litre carbon levy on both petrol and diesel.

Currently, the government already charges Rs78.2 per litre on petrol and Rs77.1 on diesel. With these additional levies, fuel prices could rise beyond Rs300 per litre, which would directly impact the everyday consumer.

Stay informed and plan your travel and expenses accordingly. Petrol prices in Pakistan are not just tied to international markets, but also to complex policy decisions and fiscal strategies.
