In a surprising but impressive twist, Apple has once again taken the lead in the global smartphone market. According to a recent report by Counterpoint Research, the iPhone 16 is currently the best-selling smartphone in the world for the first quarter of 2025. This achievement marks a significant return to dominance for Apple’s standard iPhone model, something we haven’t seen since 2023.
Between January and March 2025, Apple’s iPhones dominated global sales charts, outperforming all Android competitors. The iPhone 16, in particular, stood out by becoming the number one selling smartphone across several key markets, including the Middle East, Africa, and Japan.
What’s even more interesting is how Apple managed to stay ahead despite ongoing inflation and rising global prices, which have impacted consumer spending. Still, users continue to choose iPhones over other options, which says a lot about the brand’s loyalty and product quality.
The second best-selling device during the same period was the iPhone 16 Pro Max, followed by the iPhone 16 Pro in third place. Apple’s previous generation iPhone 15 still held strong at number four. The only non-Apple phone in the top five was Samsung’s Galaxy A16 5G, which took the fifth spot.
Even with economic challenges, Apple has once again proven its strong market position. If these trends continue, 2025 might be another record-breaking year for iPhone sales.
